Over the last several years mold has been discovered to be a leading cause of many illnesses previously attributed to other causes. While mold has always existed, and always will, it is definitely a hot button topic now.
With homes and buildings being built tighter and more energy efficient, they may also be lacking the proper ventilation to prohibit mold growth. In order to grow, mold needs a water source as well as elevated levels of humidity and a food source. This can be found in water damaged carpeting, sheetrock, insulation, ceilings, etc.
While there are numerous molds, a number of them can produce allergens that will trigger an allergic reaction in people susceptible to mold. Other molds are known to produce potent toxins and irritants. These health concerns are an important reason to remediate existing mold growth and to take corrective measures to prevent its return.
